Pile driving and extracting

Pile driving involves inserting pile elements into the ground and extracting them from the earth. Pile driving and pulling are among the most widely used specialised civil engineering methods. A vibrator is used as the working tool. Rotating imbalances in the vibrator generate vibrations that are transferred to the pile via a clamp. The vibration generated reduces friction between the ground and the pile, allowing the element to penetrate the ground.

Drilling

Drilling is a very versatile and low-vibration special civil engineering method for producing boreholes. The most common application is the installation of concrete piles.

Concrete piles can be installed using several methods, e.g. as cased or uncased method using the Kelly drilling, with the VDW system, as in-situ concrete piles using a continuous flight auger and as partial or full displacement piles. They can be produced as single piles or pile groups as well as tangential or secant pile walls. In most cases, single piles or pile groups are used as foundation elements. Tangential and secant pile walls are used to stabilise excavations or as foundations for a new building. Drilling methods can be used in nearly soil conditions. Rock drill heads and down-the-hole hammers are used in difficult soil conditions.

Soil mixing

Soil mixing is a method for soil improvement and for installing mixed concrete piles or pile walls, where a special mixing tool mixes the existing soil with aggregates. The mixing process takes place during excavation and also during extraction. The mixing process significantly improves the soil characteristics.
The soil mixing process offers a wide range of possible applications to improve the soil according to individual requirements.

A single auger drive or multiple auger drive with mixing tools adapted to the existing soil is used. The TMBA multiple auger drives have been specially developed for soil mixing. They are available as Twin-, Triple- and Quadmix. Individual coordination of the components ensures efficient and sustainable soil treatment.

Pressing

The ABI Hydro-Press system enables the static pressing of steel sheet piles. Noise and vibration emissions are reduced to a minimum during the installation, so that pressing can be carried out primarily on construction sites near data centres or historic buildings under monument protection, hospitals and schools. Depending on the geological situation, high daily outputs can be achieved as the Hydro-Press system can accommodate several steel sheet piles at once. ABI offers the Hydro-Press-System in two versions: HPU for U shaped sheet piles and HPZ for Z shaped sheet piles.

Impacting

Impacting methods can be used in nearly all geologies. DELMAG diesel pile hammers are used - either mounted on a MOBILRAM or independently running with a leader as a guide. Impacting is suitable for back driving of piles or for embedding piles in load-bearing layers, e.g. in a rock, as well as when a proof of load-bearing capacity has to be provided.
